I had just finished the copywriting job of my life. I had written up an ad for the ultimate gaming PC and it was going to start appearing in the newspapers and online within weeks. This assignment was going to make my career. I could move up from a junior copywriter and get promoted to a mid-level one. I’d get a raise. Not to mention, I’d start getting more interesting copywriting assignments and maybe might supervise a few entry-level copywriters under me. It was one of the best days of my life. When I got home, I broke open a bottle a wine and told my girlfriend we were going out for steaks. Sighing, she pulled herself up off the sofa and got changed out of her sweat pants. Over dinner, I told her everything and how excited I am, but she just picked at her mashed potatoes. I realize she’s unemployed and feeling depressed over how long it’s taking her to even find a job, but she could have at least congratulated me. I am doing her a favor by letting her stay with me so she doesn’t spend all her money on rent. At least she got changed out of those sweat pants. I think she’d been wearing them for a week.
